Important Safety Information
Stanozolol is contraindicated in known or suspected carcinoma of the prostate or male breast, carcinoma of the breast in females with hypercalcemia, pregnancy, nephrosis, and hypercalcemia. It should be used with extreme caution in patients with cardiac, renal, or hepatic disease. The FDA-approved label warns that serious adverse reactions include peliosis hepatis, liver cell tumors, and blood lipid changes.
Important
Non-Medical Use
Stanozolol is not approved to increase muscle strength or size. Non-medical use carries risks of severe liver injury, lipid abnormalities, and cardiovascular events. The FDA states that performance enhancement is not treatment of a disease or injury.
Potential Adverse Effects
Common adverse effects include hepatic dysfunction (elevated liver enzymes), hirsutism and menstrual irregularities in women, acne, and changes in libido. Stanozolol significantly reduces HDL cholesterol (by 33% in one study) and increases LDL cholesterol (by 29%), with a 123% increase in hepatic triglyceride lipase activity.
Serious adverse effects include cholestatic jaundice, peliosis hepatis (blood-filled liver cysts), hepatic adenomas, and in rare cases sub-massive hepatic necrosis. Tendon rupture, particularly of the triceps, pectoralis major, and quadriceps, is associated with stanozolol use due to its effects on connective tissue.
Conditions Requiring Medical Evaluation
Stanozolol should not be used in pregnancy (it may virilize a female fetus), in breastfeeding, or in individuals with prostate cancer, male breast cancer, or hypercalcemia. Pre-existing liver disease, heart disease, or kidney disease requires caution and monitoring. Diabetes may be affected by stanozolol's effects on glucose levels.
Monitoring Considerations
During stanozolol therapy, periodic monitoring of liver function tests, lipid panels, glucose, coagulation parameters, and calcium levels is recommended. In males on prolonged therapy, prostate evaluation may be appropriate. Women should be monitored for signs of virilization, and children for premature sexual development or growth deceleration.
