Important Safety Information
Oxandrolone is a 17-alpha-alkylated anabolic steroid. Compounds in this class have been associated with cholestatic hepatitis and jaundice, and liver function should be monitored during medical use. In non-medical contexts, the risk of hepatic stress increases with dose and duration of use.
Anabolic steroids, including oxandrolone, have been reported to decrease high-density lipoproteins and sometimes increase low-density lipoproteins. These changes may impact cardiovascular risk, particularly with prolonged use.
Important
Non-Medical Use
Oxandrolone is not approved for bodybuilding or athletic performance enhancement. Non-medical use falls outside approved indications and may carry additional health risks beyond those associated with supervised medical use.
Potential Adverse Effects
Hepatic effects are a primary concern with 17-alpha-alkylated anabolic steroids. Elevated liver enzymes are commonly observed, and in rare cases more serious hepatic complications have been reported with long-term high-dose use.
Androgenic effects can include acne, increased facial or body hair, and in women, signs of virilization such as voice deepening and clitoral enlargement. Some virilizing effects may be irreversible.
Anabolic steroids can suppress endogenous testosterone production and reduce sperm production. Cardiovascular effects may include lipid profile alterations and, in some cases, elevated blood pressure.
Mood changes and behavioral effects have been reported anecdotally, though systematic data on oxandrolone specifically are limited.
Conditions Requiring Medical Evaluation
Oxandrolone is contraindicated in pregnancy, known or suspected prostate or male breast cancer, and in patients with hypercalcemia. Caution is advised in individuals with pre-existing cardiac, renal, or hepatic disease. Medical evaluation is required before any consideration of therapeutic use.
Monitoring During Therapy
Medically supervised oxandrolone therapy typically involves periodic liver function testing, lipid monitoring, and assessment of hemoglobin and hematocrit. In pediatric use, bone maturation monitoring is also required. These monitoring practices are relevant to medical use; non-medical use lacks the same clinical oversight.
