Important Safety Information
FDA labeling for oxandrolone includes warnings for peliosis hepatis (blood-filled cysts in the liver that can be life-threatening), liver cell tumors, and blood lipid changes associated with increased risk of atherosclerosis and coronary artery disease. The labeling states that anabolic steroids have not been shown to enhance athletic ability.
Oxandrolone is contraindicated in patients with known or suspected carcinoma of the prostate or male breast, carcinoma of the breast in females with hypercalcemia, pregnancy (Category X), hypersensitivity to the drug, nephrosis, and hypercalcemia.
Important
Not for Human Use
This product is sold as a research chemical and is not approved for human use. Products sold online under the name Anavar through research compound vendors are not FDA-regulated, have no verified manufacturing standards, and carry unknown contamination, dosing, and safety risks. Oxandrolone is legally available only by prescription for approved medical indications.
Potential Adverse Effects
The following adverse reactions have been associated with use of anabolic steroids: hepatic effects including cholestatic jaundice with rare hepatic necrosis and death, hepatocellular neoplasms, and peliosis hepatis with long-term therapy. Reversible changes in liver function tests also occur including increased BSP retention and increases in serum bilirubin, AST, and ALT.
Women should be observed for signs of virilization including deepening of the voice, hirsutism, acne, and clitoromegaly. Discontinuation at the time of evidence of mild virilism is necessary to prevent irreversible virilization. Some virilizing changes in women are irreversible even after prompt discontinuance of therapy and are not prevented by concomitant use of estrogens.
Other potential effects include nausea, vomiting, changes in skin color, ankle swelling, and for males, too frequent or persistent erections of the penis and appearance or aggravation of acne.
Conditions Requiring Medical Evaluation
Oxandrolone should be used with caution in patients with a history of cardiovascular disease or who are at risk for cardiovascular disease, as androgenic anabolic steroids have been reported to increase LDL and decrease HDL. Edema with or without congestive heart failure may be a serious complication in patients with pre-existing cardiac, renal, or hepatic disease.
In children, androgen therapy may accelerate bone maturation without producing compensatory gain in linear growth, resulting in compromised adult height. Bone age should be monitored every 6 months.
Monitoring During Therapy
Because of the hepatotoxicity associated with the use of 17-alpha-alkylated androgens, liver function tests should be obtained periodically. Serum lipid levels should be performed periodically and therapy adjusted accordingly. Hemoglobin and hematocrit should be checked periodically for polycythemia in patients receiving high doses.
Laboratory testing of the product itself, such as the published potency report shown in the Lab Reports tab, is separate from clinical monitoring of the person using the medication. Product testing does not assess individual health status or suitability for use.
